So many people think that concrete flooring is only gray and industrial in appearance. In their mind, they may only think of cold and dismal garage floors and other similar types of looks. They would certainly never think of concrete as an ultra fashionable and luxurious finishing choice for their home. Concrete is not meant only for patios, decks and garages anymore, nor is it only meant for commercial applications. There are a number of finishing options that you can investigate for your own polished concrete flooring project. With polished concrete flooring, the amount of shine and the color of the finished concrete is completely up to you.
The color choice can be mixed in from the beginning of the project or added before the very final polishing and sealing takes place. This is typically done with an acid etching process where an acid based material is scrubbed onto the floor, allowed to dry and a whole new color and patterns are exposed in the material. This process will pick up all of the unique and beautiful variations of the flooring which can be made even more wonderful when highly polished and allowed to shine. Polished concrete flooring can be completed with several steps and can be given any level of shine and polish as desired. Once the appropriate look is achieved, it can be protected with a coating to seal it and keep it safe from stains and damage.
Unsealed concrete floors are more prone to staining and potential damage, and dirt or other items should be cleaned as quickly as possible. Sealing will not keep all stains from happening, however, it will slow them down. For most polished concrete flooring, only a quick cleaning with a damp mop will be all that is needed most of the time.
