Take Good Care of Your Hardwood Floor

After spending time and money installing your beautiful hardwood floor, you want to make sure that you do everything you can to take care of it properly. While they are durable, and will last a long time, they will eventually wear out. Don't worry though; you can do several things to make sure that your hardwood floor lasts for years to come.

Preserving the appearance of your floor is the first step in making sure that it lasts for a long time. Follow the proceeding tips and tricks, and your floor will be in good shape.

Beneath all of your furniture, you should place pads made of felt or some other type of cloth. This ensures that if your furniture moves or slides inadvertently it won't scratch the floor. If you plan to move the furniture, you will also want to use these pads if you need to move the furniture – which you should always lift and never push.

Put some area rugs that match the flooring in the areas that receive the most traffic. This will help to reduce the wear and tear that occurs over many years. You will likely have to replace the area rug several times over before you will even think about getting new flooring.

Put mats at the entranceways to the rooms and forbid shoes on the hardwood floor. You never know what kind of things gets carried in on the soles of shoes, and you could inadvertently scratch the floor with a wayward pebble or shard of glass.

Keep your pet's nails trimmed as well. When they start running and sliding across the floor, they could scratch the floor.

You will also want to clean the floor on a regular basis by sweeping or dusting. This will take up most of the dirt. If you must mop, only use a dry mop. The only cleaning products that you should ever use on your floor are the ones specified by the manufacturer.

With a little bit of care, your hardwood floor will last for many, many years.
